EOC Week 5: Super Bowl Commercial

The Super Bowl has always been filled with loads of yearly interesting commercials but this year a specific commercial has got everybody fussing about. GoDaddy's new "Smart Meets Sexy" campaign has got everyone somewhat disgusted but pleased at the same time. Tweets have been flying out the roof with lots of talk about GoDaddy’s bold advertisement.

The ad features the Victoria’s Secret beauty, Bar Refaeli and actor Jesse Heiman who plays as the “nerdy tech guy”.  GoDaddy’s commercial reveals a 20 second long agonizing imagery of this beauty and beast “working as one” by sucking each other’s face off. Although much of the buzz towards this choice of advertisement has left most in disgust, the most important of all is the fact that all the talk has been about mostly their ad whether it’s positive or negative feedbacks. After all, the more talk about the company the better. It’s safe to say that GoDaddy has certainly left an impression with their bold choice of advertising on all of us. According to GoDaddy “the Monday following the super bowl was the biggest sales day in history” within the company. Hosting sales increased by 45%, Dot-com domain sales went up by 40% and new mobile customers increased by 35% adding a whopping 10,000 customers within a fraction of a day according to Mashable. Unfortunately, the statistics on AdMeter say otherwise, displaying GoDaddy’s ad of Bar Refaeli’s make-out session as dead last on the list. Although their ad did not make the top of AdMeter’s list, their advertisement campaign was greatly successful. GoDaddy has a specific trademark, and that trademark is advertising with very attractive women. Even though many viewers don’t understand or appreciate why GoDaddy advertises the way they do, the point is that their style matches the “mainstream” of today. They’re style of advertisement and crude humor is very distinctive amongst other companies but that’s what makes their company shine! Although to be considered ineffective to some, GoDaddy has been marked down into advertisement history!
